The Mayan Calendar did not End in 2012

I have found that a large number of people still believe that the Mayan calendar ended in 2012, not only those that took a casual interest in this calendar, but also some of those that were quite engaged. Possibly partly because of disappointment everyone in the latter group did not fully assimilate the discussions that did follow upon 2012 in order to understand what had happened. I should already here recognize, as I did in an article written on my blog on December 31, 2012 and later in my book The Nine Waves of Creation that I have also myself contributed to the confusion regarding the so-called “ending” of the Mayan calendar. At least I have however corrected myself and taken responsibility for my part in this. Yet, that a whole field of researchers gets it wrong is nothing unusual in scholarly endeavors. Moving through such errors is what the scientific process is all about. What is important is however that the errors are corrected so as to create a new opening for understanding and this is what I am going to discuss in this article. For some, this may seem like a somewhat technical article, but on the other hand the topic remains of critical importance for our understanding not only of the past but also of the future of humanity. Thus, I think it is worth diving into the matter. The Mayan calendar itself was not wrong. A large number of researchers and students of this were however wrong on a critical point and I am not talking about silly Hollywood disaster moviemakers, but of the serious people. Because of this error in our understanding of the Mayan calendar we have to make the appropriate corrections if we are to arrive at a new and expanded understanding of this.

To begin with we may wonder from where the idea came that the so-called Long Count would come to an end. When people used to talk about the “end” of the Mayan calendar they were actually referring to this particular calendar, the Long Count, which is a wave form that have been developing in phases called baktuns of 144,000 days each starting in 3115 BCE. (We will here leave aside the question of when this began exactly and in what context the Long Count existed to other waves). This was the highest frequency creation wave followed by the Ancient Maya, which is not surprising since at the time no wave with a higher frequency had been activated. Hence, to them the Long Count was their main chronology to which they related especially their own dynastic histories. A critical question regarding the purported end of the Long Count is then how many baktuns this was supposed to consist of. Is the Long Count constituted by thirteen baktuns, of twenty baktuns or is it in fact endless going into the future never to end? If it would have been thirteen baktuns long then it would have ended in 2011 (or 2012) and the world would have experienced a profound discontinuity as the Long Count conceivably would have been followed by a new cycle. If it would be twenty baktuns long then its end would generate a discontinuity in 4772 CE, but if it was in fact endless there would never be any discontinuity or end of time generated by the Long Count. There would only be an ongoing wave movement going up and down with its shifting phases (baktuns). Hence, there are three different possible solutions to the problem.

Although the contemporary Maya hardly argued that their calendar would come to an end, they had long since (about 1000 years ago) ceased to follow the Long Count or any of the other higher waves of the calendar system. Hence, modern scholars had to rely on what they could gather from the archeological findings about the calendar system of the ancient Maya. Quite a few archeologists would argue that the Long Count would be limited to thirteen baktuns and this included in the very influential book The Maya written by Michael Coe. He originally placed the end of the Long Count after thirteen baktuns to 2011, but later changed it to 2012. This shift date was then picked up as being of significance by some early pioneers giving the Mayan calendar meaning, such as Peter Balin and Frank Waters. What had a much greater impact was however when Jose Argüelles wrote The Mayan Factor and said about December 21, 2012: Then it shall be ready. The unique moment. The moment of total planetary synchronization, 13.0.0.0.0. on the beam, will arrive – the closing out not only of the Great Cycle, but of the evolutionary interim called Homo sapiens. Amidst festive preparations and awesome galactic-solar signs psychically received, the human race, in harmony with the animal and other kingdoms and taking its rightful place in the electromagnetic sea, will unify as a single circuit. Solar and galactic sound transmissions will inundate the planetary field. At last, the Earth will be ready for the emergence into the inter-planetary civilization.

To Argüelles there was obviously no doubtthat the Long Count was limited to thirteen baktuns and that the date this would come to a close would generate a profound discontinuity as described above. Yet, few people would probably agree today that the above was a good description of what happened on December 21, 2012, which by all standards was a very uneventful day. Something must have been wrong here. Argüelles himself however had passed away about a year earlier and we do not know what he would have now said about it. As far as I know none of his followers has taken up the mantle and addressed the issue. This again raises the questions as to whether the Long Count was truly thirteen baktuns and if it was not, could this explain why there was no such discontinuity on December 21, 2012 as Argüelles had envisioned. Could it then be that the idea that most archeologists had been promoting, namely that the Long Count was limited to thirteen baktuns was in error? Certainly, it was on their information that Argüelles had based himself.

I should here say that Argüelles was not alone among more visionary researchers to hold the idea that the Long Count was limited to thirteen baktuns. He just came out first and was the most influential proponent of this. I myself also essentially believed the archeologists to have been right and so did the late John Major Jenkins, who gave one of his books the subtitle The true meaning of the Maya calendar end date. To our defense, and to the defense of the archeologists, there were in fact some very good reasons to believe that the Long Count should have been limited to thirteen baktuns. One is the prominence of the number 13 in the sacred tzolkin calendar of the Maya, which is a microcosmic matrix for all the waves including the Long Count. Another the fact that there are many inscriptions from the ancient Maya describing a pre-Long Count lasting from 8240 BCE to 3115 BCE, which was then in fact thirteen baktuns. If so, why would not the Long Count similarly be limited to thirteen baktuns. Indeed, if the Long Count would not be thirteen baktuns similarly to its preceding creation wave, this would be truly very mysterious. It would imply that the Long Count would not be a cyclically repeated phenomenon of identical duration as astronomical phenomena are. If the pre-Long Count and the Long Count did not have the same durations then they would have to emanate in the activation of waves in the quantum field and at the time for many this seemed unthinkable.

From my own perspective I had always known that there were ancient Mayan inscription dates deep into the future, but had chosen to ignore them (I take it both Argüelles and Jenkins did the same). After all, most disciplines of study display some anomalies, outliers that cannot be understood from the established context and I thought those dates were examples of such. I thus only started to realize that there must have been something seriously wrong with the established idea about the Long Count when I heard from Dr Mark van Stone that there was in fact no evidence from the ancient Maya saying that this would be limited to thirteen baktuns. On the contrary, there was evidence from ancient times that they believed this to go beyond thirteen baktuns. I quote from van Stone’s book 2012 – Science and Prophecy of the ancient Maya: There are bits of evidence suggesting that although the Maya reset the Long Count at the last 13.0.0.0.0 they don’t plan to do it in 2012. At least some of them expected no more recreations after this one. After 13.0.0.0.0 would come 14.0.0.0.0 and 15.0.0.0.0, and on up. (We are in other words now in the fourteenth baktun of the Long Count and not in the first baktun of a new cycle). The evidence for this comes from Yaxchilan, Palenque and Tikal, places that were at the leading edge regarding calendars in the ancient Mayan world.

For example, at the Temple of the Inscription in Palenque there is a relief describing different (presumptive) celebrations of the anniversaries of the coronation of Pacal. One of them points to a date 1.0.0.0.0.8 (1 Pictun, 0 Baktuns, 0 Katuns, 0 Tuns, 0 winals and 8 kin) in the future, which would point to the year 4772 CE. The point is not here only that this date shows that the Mayan Calendar in the view of the Palenqueans continued well beyond our own time. This notation also shows that the Long Count was not expected to reset in 2012, in which case it would have been described as 7.0.0.0.8 (deducting 13 baktuns from 1 Pictun, which corresponds to twenty baktuns). In the ancient view the Long Count would thus not reset with a discontinuity on December 21, 2012, but would go on to at least twenty baktuns and maybe the added 8 days was a message that it would go on endlessly, which is what I believe.

This was profound knowledge and meant that the whole idea of a discontinuity at the end of the Long count lacked a foundation in ancient sources. The Mayan calendar did not end and there was no indication that a new cycle would begin in 2012. Starting with my article Some New Reflections on the Mayan Calendar “end” date from December 31, 2012 I began to correct my earlier view and develop one where there was no end to the wave movement of the Long Count (or any of the other eight waves of creation). The consequences of these discoveries by van Stone were profound as they meant that logically speaking all the waves of the Mayan calendar system, not only the Long Count, should continue into the future. In principle we can then still understand what is happening in the world from the interference patterns of these different waves of the Mayan calendar, although they may not always be easy to interpret.

While obviously John Jenkins must also have been surprised at the uneventful nature of December 21, 2012 date, it was his long time supporter Geoff Stray who addressed the issue of the duration of the Long Count in an article of July of 2013 called Mysteries of the Long Count which he sells on his web site. This is a good article and describes in much detail what views different Mayanist researchers in the past had held regarding the duration of the Long Count. His conclusion is essentially the same as mine, except that while I clearly say that the idea of a thirteen baktun Long Count was wrong, he merely entertains this as a possibility. While he criticizes the archeologists for not having gotten it right, he does not take a clear stand for twenty baktuns or more himself. Since John Jenkins endorsed Stray’s article we have reasons to assume that it reflected also the view of John and in fact may have been what ultimately defined his legacy regarding the Long Count.

But why, we may ask, did Stray not take a clear stand regarding the duration of the Long Count to say that it was actually twenty baktuns (or more). I think he had strong reasons to avoid this, We should then remember that Stray before the shift would say that on the very day of December 21, 2012 there would, because of the “galactic alignment” of the midwinter sun, be a burst of DMT (dimethyltryptamine) affecting many people, which would generate a widespread transformation. Again, this did not happen on this date and so for him there was little reason to claim that the Long Count would have been limited to thirteen baktuns. Why then did he sit on the fence about it and did not clearly recognize that the Long Count is at least twenty baktuns? This is explained by the fact that this would make irrelevant all what he had been saying for so many years about a galactic alignment and the precessional cycle’s role for this. All of this would go out the window because if indeed the Long Count was not limited to thirteen baktuns the shift on December 21, 2012 would not have had the meaning as an end date as Jenkins had proposed and so the whole idea of a galactic alignment would be exposed. There was in fact no ancient Mayan text mentioning anything like a galactic alignment or a 26,000 year precessional cycle that this was linked to. These were ideas made up and believed by modern people.

It should here be mentioned that, based on the idea of a thirteen baktun duration of the Long Count, many of Jenkins’ followers had come to believe in a precessional cycle of 26,000 years. They thought this was the basis of the Mayan calendar because it seemed that the duration of five Long Counts, 5 x 5,125 = 25,500 years was so close to the duration of this astrological cycle. Consider then what would happen to this correspondence if the Long Count (which after all Stray implies) would be twenty baktuns. Then five presumed Long Count cycles would have a total duration of 4 x 5,125 + 7,900 = 28,400 years, which would not jive very well with the precessional cycle. The whole theory that the Mayan Long Count would be based on the precessional cycle would then also be exposed at least among critically thinking people. This is presumably the reason that Stray does not take a stand regarding the duration of the Long Count as either way – whether the Long Count is thirteen or twenty baktuns – the idea of a precession-based galactic alignment in 2012– would be seen to lack any foundation. Despite Stray having written this article and Jenkins endorsed it you however still find people who believe that the Mayan calendar was based on the 26,000 year precessional cycle and that this ended on December 21, 2012. Based on Stray’s own arguments this can however not possibly have been the case. Regardless of the fact that Stray does not draw the full consequences of his article it is however well worth reading.

Someone may then wonder why the ancient Maya wrote the Tortuguero Monument No 6 inscription about the recent shift if this was not indeed an end to the Long Count. And yes, it is actually quite astonishing that the Maya some 1500 years ago wrote an inscription pointing to a very profound shift in our own time. They must then have seen that this indeed was a very significant shift. And here comes what may be the most difficult for many to understand: The October 28, 2011 date (or as some believe December 21, 2012) was not an important date because it was an end date, but because it was a synchronization date. The meaning of Bolon Yokte Kuh (The nine step divinity – Bolon means nine in Mayan language) appearing in his full regalia (as the inscription reads) is important because for the first time in the history of the universe all nine waves (the full regalia of the nine level god) had been activated by March 9. 2011. They were actually for a moment in time in October of 2011 also synchronized and in the same thirteenth phase at this particular shift date. This was indeed a highly significant shift opening up for a new era determined by a new interference pattern between different waves that we are living in now. Yet, in this may be the main point of this article: this had nothing to do with the Long Count coming to an end.

Fig 1. The Long Count did not come to an end on October 28, 2011 (or December 21, 2012). What happened on this date was that all the nine waves for the first time in the history of the universe were all synchronized and went into a phase shift together. Bolon Yokte Kuh the nine level “god” now appeared in his full regalia.

So over all, all of the major players (including myself) who were involved in the Mayan calendar before 2012 were in error when it came to the idea that the Long Count would then come to an end. We were right however in that there was a very significant shift as heralded by the Tortuguero monument. This shift was however not based on an ending of any wave, but on the activation of all the nine waves of creation and their synchronization, which are now (including the Long Count) continuing to run in parallel shaping the destiny of humanity. The new interference pattern between these waves creates both challenges and opportunities. The opportunity essentially lies in creating resonance with and following the guidance of the Ninth Wave, which is the one that is manifesting the unity consciousness that will shape the future of humanity. Despite what many seem to believe the Mayan calendar did not end in 2012 (or 2011).

The Mayan Calendar has come to an End

The Mayan calendar has come to an end. This means that the universe has attained its highest possible quantum state as of October 28, 2011. In mythological language, Bolon Yokte Kuh, the nine-support-god, and especially the unity consciousness of the ninth wave has been strongly experienced by a certain number of people. Many now typically report that they experience a flattening of time, an end to time acceleration and as a result a great calmness. The end to the acceleration of time is even experienced as a deceleration and some have reached so deep into their own presence that the term “future’’ is starting to loose its previous meaning. The future is no longer a place to get to. With the completion of the Ninth wave we potentially already have direct access to all the guidance we need. This shifted experience of time all seems understandable given that was has happened is that the directed nine evolutionary processes from seed to mature have now been completed. For those that have a conscious relationship to the tree of life the new experience of time will continue to deepen also after this shift. As we know from all previous experience of the shifting energies of the Mayan calendar it always takes time until their external manifestations become visible.

A good thing about the end to the Mayan calendar is that the world did not also come to an end on October 28, 2011. We now have reasons once and for all to throw out the notion that an end to the world was somehow scripted by the Mayan calendar. This should also go for many of the sometimes crazy disaster scenarios that were suggested under the influence of the high frequency of the Ninth wave when it was sometimes hard to keep the balance. The Mayan calendar is primarily about changes in the human beings themselves and everything else is secondary.

Unfortunately, the October 28 date was sometimes popularized as if the whole transformation would occur on this very date and some big media came to talk about it as another end of the world date. For some, the absence of a catastrophic scenario have then led them to question whether the calendar has actually come to an end, which shows to what extent many have become addicted to Hollywood’s view of the world. As I see it however we are now, as of October 29, 2011 entering an era where the future is no longer scripted and what happens will be entirely up to the human beings. This is a situation that has never existed before as up to this point the evolution of the universe has been guided by nine directed waves. For those following my work it should thus have been clear that whatever would happen on October 28, 2011 would have been the result of the processes of the nine waves leading up to this date.

There is also always reason to expect inertia, and hence delay, at such a shift. To exemplify the delay of manifestation we may for instance take the beginning of the seventh day of the Galactic Underworld on November 3, 2010, which many were celebrating as a day of balancing male and female and an end to dominance. It then took several months after shifts until it more tangibly manifested in the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt. According to most standards “nothing” happened on the dates of either the Harmonic Convergence of August 16-17, 1987 or the Conscious Convergence of July 17-18, 2010 and so if indeed something happened in or around October 28, 2011, which I will return to below, it would be truly remarkable and a first in this regard.

Because people had different expectations, which did not always manifest, and also sometimes to confuse people, there has been a range of different forms of criticism or questions asked from me. Many advocating the December 21. 2012 end date have written critical articles usually with the essence that I am not an orthodox enough Mayanist. Maybe so, I am a person who honors truth more than tradition, and for this reason I am probably also the only person in modern times to have suggested a solution to the Mayan calendar. Thus, when people who see themselves as Mayanists or Mayan calendar experts have criticized my work they have done so without answering the relevant questions themselves. I then see little reason to respond to criticisms from people that claim to be authorities, but in fact have presented no alternative solutions. (The absurd notion that October 28, 2011 did not mark a cycle end has even been put forth as if this were not even a 13 Ahau date). It is not a solution to the Mayan calendar to say that there is another end date or that something will happen in the sky on such a date. A solution to the Mayan calendar requires a theory of how its shift points drives the evolution of the universe including human civilization. As Einstein once said, “Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them,” and this goes for the meaning of the Mayan calendar as well.

Yet, some questions have been raised by people more broadly that need to be taken more seriously. The general prediction I expressed ten years ago in The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness in 2001-2002 that by the end of the calendar we would be enlightened might have been overly optimistic. This was partly of course for rhetoric reasons since I did not want to constantly repeat qualifications and possible alternative negative scenarios when after all I did know that the overall direction that the universe was heading for was unity consciousness. Moreover, it would have been a superhuman task to be able at that point in time to see exactly what the world would look like as the calendar came to an end in 2011. Not everyone who more recently has taken an interest in the Mayan calendar may realize that at the time of writing my first books the impending onset of the Galactic and Universal Underworlds represented something entirely new in the creation of the universe and the human collective: Never before had the duration of a wave been shorter than a human life-time. What this meant is that the majority of people living in 2011 would not actually have been born into the highest waves, the eighth and ninth, that had influenced the minds of humanity and the power of a wave to influence those that had not been born into it was unknown.

It was in fact clear to me already then that a large segment of humanity that had been born into the materialist Seventh wave was so shut off from spiritual experiences that they were not responsive to waves which carried a spiritual light. It was then also possible that they would resist the changes to come as those could be understood from the Mayan calendar leading up to 2011. People that have been born into the eighth wave starting in 1999 are in fact today not yet teenagers and those born into the ninth wave have not yet learned to talk. Even if you generously include people that were born into the pre-wave (starting in 1986) of the Galactic Underworld they would still be less than 25 years old and outside of all major decision making that has shaped the course of our civilization since.

Yet, there obviously also is a group who has taken an interest in the Mayan calendar and the spiritual fate of humanity even though it has not been born into the eighth or ninth waves. This group is however clearly a minority in comparison to the mainstream of people above 25 years of age, a minority that has become sensitive to the energy changes and drawn to a world of oneness because of some special experiences they might have had or personal choices they have made to practice yoga, meditation or deeksha, etc. The existence of such a group, that I belong to myself, does not change the fact that society is still run by a mainstream that was shaped by the materialist Seventh wave. Thus, even if unity consciousness now with the Ninth wave exists as a cosmic imprint most of those born into the Seventh wave will not take part in the creation of a new world unless they feel compelled to do so through the breakdown of the old. It would naturally have been nice if the universe would have taken humanity to a more advanced place as the Mayan calendar came to an end, but as it turns out it did not. I do believe however that it now has provided us with all the necessary tools for our transformation and now everything will be up to the human beings themselves.

With this background to the current situation I would like to start the discussion about what objectively happened as the Mayan calendar came to an end. On my blog at the Mayan Calendar Portal I made the prediction that the end of the Mayan calendar would mean the collapse of duality-based civilization (in fact the end of authority) and its transcendence by unity consciousness. Did this happen? I think to address this question we have to look especially at what happened along the 12 longitude East because this is the line along which duality was first established with the Sixth wave (Long Count). Thus, if duality would be transcended it is along this line, created by the Tree of Life, that we would first see the effects of this before they would spread from to both the East and the West. This is a critical point to understand. Some people have been following the Mayan calendar as a means of following a tradition and others may have been following it as an intellectual or mental structure. Yet, without a personal relationship with the Tree of Life – or the Heart of the Heavens – and the various lines along which this creates duality and unity on our planet I do not think that it is possible to actually experience the energies of the Mayan calendar and so understand the reality it describes.

Looking then at the 12th longitude East a very notable thing at the end of the calendar was the fall of the regime of Mouammar Kadhafi, a dictator and supposedly the world’s richest man. The war in Libya had started on the first day of the Ninth wave and followed a classical seed to mature fruit process as it was completed with the final downfall of the regime in its seventh day. The reason that this process was so strictly aligned with the Ninth wave is that it manifested on the line along which duality was initially introduced and where it is now being transcended. Tripolis is located exactly on the 12th longitude and a new government was introduced there on October 31 (three days after the end of the Mayan calendar). The end to this war and the downfall of the oppressive regime has helped clear this critical line for the evolution of humanity.

Shortly before the end of the calendar there was also an intense activity to avoid a collapse of the world’s financial system in the form of the acceptance of an aid/austerity package to Greece on October 27 (The European Union is the world’s largest economy and its central nation is after all Germany, whose capital Berlin is on the planetary midline). The Greek drama was however reactivated with the idea of a referendum proposed on October 31 but later retracted. As it now looks a global economic collapse will instead be precipitated in a relatively short time by Italy (under the midline) an economy of a size that cannot be saved by other EU members. The edge of the knife upon which the future of the world’s economy is balancing has thus shifted to the midline, where its fate will be linked to that of Silvio Berlusconi, a clear representative of male sexist dominance.

Thus, the transcendence of duality may not look exactly as I, or anybody else, had envisioned it. The collapse of the world’s economy will likely be very troublesome to many of us, but as I have written before the current financial system is not consistent with the unity consciousness that has now been brought by the Ninth wave. The most important practical steps in the direction of unity consciousness would probably have to be taken in the economic arena. Unity consciousness is not a state of mind of an individual. Unity consciousness manifests primarily in the absence of relationships of dominance especially in the world’s economical and political systems. Despite its limited reach I feel the Occupy Everywhere group that called for a global “Shut down of the System” on October 28, 2011 had intuitively grasped that the Mayan calendar is all about the end to dominance and duality.

Another thing that happened close to the midline at October 28, 2011 is what the successful practical testing by Italian scientists of cold fusion energy:

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2011-10/29/rossi-success.

As you might expect question marks regarding further scaling may remain. Yet, it seems clear to me that if there will be any chances for the 7 billion headed (as of October 31, 2011) population of humanity to survive on our planet it is imperative that a source of energy that is both safe and abundant becomes available. Fossil fuels carry the risk of global warming with large ecological consequences and the great risks associated with the use of nuclear fission energy was again recently demonstrated in Japan. If earthquakes continue at the frequency and strengths they have had in the Ninth wave then we would be at a constant risk of a global radiation disaster. For these reasons the demonstration by Rossi of a controllable energy source holds the potential of something very important that may come to save our planet. Maybe it can also be looked upon as a fruit of a process of transformation of our sources of energy that started in the first day of the Ninth wave with the nuclear crisis in Japan. If this is true it may be that people are not always looking in the right directions to see the miracles that happen around them and for this reason are all too quick to dismiss the idea that the evolution of our planet has been guided by a divine plan.

Regardless, given the few points I have mentioned above I really do not understand when some people say that “nothing” happened at or around October 28, 2011. Consider also the fact mentioned above that at the dates of the Harmonic Convergence (called for by José Argüelles) or the Conscious Convergence (called for by myself) nothing visibly happened in the external world. October 28, 2011 is then the first widely celebrated date based on the Mayan calendar when remarkable things happened on its very date. In a sense however this may not be so surprising as this was indeed the date of the shift of the ages and is likely to come down in history as such.

So what will happen after this shift? What I have meant by the “end” of the Mayan calendar is the completion of the Nine waves, including the Long Count, that have developed the cosmos up until this point each in thirteen steps. The processes from seed to mature fruit have been concluded. Bolon Yokte Kuh, the “god” of the nine forces, has descended, but “his full regalia” will continue to manifest also in the time ahead. At least on the level of the Tree of Life unity consciousness has transcended duality through the effects of the Ninth wave. In the time ahead we will continue to see the effects of this transcendence of duality to play out, but in a new way, where the timing of events are not part of processes going from seed to mature fruit. Built on the unity consciousness introduced by the ninth wave we will see a continued transformation of duality to unity consciousness in 2012 and beyond.

What is new is that there is no place, or scripted event, in the future to “get to” since the climb of the top of the pyramid of consciousness has already been accomplished. Throughout the Ninth wave thousands of people have had the experience of a heightened awareness of unity. Thus, much of what was developed in the Ninth wave such as “the world oneness revolution“ (including for instance struggles in Yemen and Syria) – now mostly known as the Occupy Movement – will continue with global objectives emanating from this unity frame of consciousness. It is, I believe, for a reason that people for a long time have been looking to the year 2012 as a year of transformation. The reason is that this year follows upon the end of the Mayan calendar on October 28, 2011 and the unity consciousness that especially the Ninth wave has brought.

From now on the future is no longer scripted in time. Of course, many people, and especially those born into the Seventh wave, did not think the future was scripted to begin with. Yet, I feel there is massive evidence presented in my books and elsewhere that indeed we have been living within a cosmic time plan regardless of whether the large media and social institutions of education chose to ignore this. Certainly, if the future is no longer scripted, the transformation to unity and to the creation of a world in harmony will come down to the human beings themselves. A lasting legacy of my solution to the Mayan calendar will then still be the demonstration of the climb to the top of the nine-storied pyramid with its unity consciousness and this is something many will need to be reminded of also in the future. It is from the unity consciousness attained by the ninth wave that a new world will be created after some time of intensifying chaos.

In one of my most recent articles before the shift I discussed what time would be like and what calendar we might want to follow in the time ahead. I will need some time before I announce my own views on this matter. A new resonance with time is now being developed by people that have experienced the shift and this has to be distinguished from the inertia of the previous consciousness of time. It seems clear that even if certain waves may continue they will not be taking us to higher levels of evolution. Instead, I believe that at the level that we have now attained we will go from doing and evolving to being in harmony. October 28, 2011 was the final shift of the ages and there will not be another one. I think there is no longer any reason to expect anything, whether good or bad, to fall down upon us at any particular date in the future since there is no longer any scripted cosmic plan. At the same time, it seems obvious that the world is still far from the goal of harmony in unity. It is then also entirely possible that this goal will be served by different collective events such as 11:11:11, the Venus Transit on June 6, 2012, 12:12:12 or December 21, 2012, etc that bring people together for intention setting, even if these dates do not have any inherent meaning in the Mayan calendar. To the extent that such celebrations have constructive goals or serve as deadlines for significant projects I will support them. The actual content of global events will now be more important than their actual timing, which is different from before October 28, 2011, when there was an intrinsic value to following the cosmic time plan.

ARTICLE: The Third day of the Ninth Wave (Universal Underworld)and the World Oneness Revolution

The frequency increase of the Ninth Wave of the Mayan calendar has thrown the world into the chaos from which the new world will be born

On March 9th, 2011 the ninth and highest wave of the Mayan calendar system was activated. This was the beginning the final countdown to the date of completion of the Mayan calendar: October 28, 2011. This new wave, made up of thirteen uaxaclahunkin periods of 18 days, meant a twenty times increase in frequency compared to the 8th wave of the Galactic Underworld that had been activated in January of 1999. This frequency increase has become evident to everyone as an extraordinary amount of significant and dramatic events compressed into a very short period of time. The Ninth wave immediately manifested in the earthquake in Japan and its first day included not only the aftershocks of this quake and the ensuing nuclear crisis, but a new war in Libya against the background of revolutionary processes going on in twelve different Arabic nations. Previously, any one of these events would have soaked up all the attention of the international community, but as they are now all happening simultaneously our attention is split between several equally dramatic developments. Thus, the cover of Newsweek magazine exclaims Apocalypse Now. Whether people are aware of the background of these events in the Ninth wave or not the frequency increase that it has brought has shaken almost everyone alive.

Economists have commented that never before has the world’s economy been characterized by so many cross currents as now and the future seems utterly unpredictable according to any model for linear change. The events both in the Middle East and Japan undermine the monetary system of the world based on the US dollar as a reserve currency. The Arabic revolutions undermine it because the point has come closer when dollars will not be accepted as payment for oil. The quake and nuclear crisis in Japan does the same because this nation has been lending large sums of money to the US that now instead will be needed for its own reconstruction. To this should be added that in the first day of the Ninth wave a quarter of a million people demonstrated in London against austerity measures by its government and the US government is now grappling with the problem of how to pay its employees. As the options to postpone a crisis by printing money now seem exhausted the world is facing the possibility of a global economic collapse. The added frequency of the ninth wave of unity consciousness will simply disrupt, in one way or another, any attempt to stabilize the world around the old system of materialist dominance. That the world will experience a very serious economic situation, much more difficult than in 2008, at some point in the Ninth wave seems certain. I believe the Ninth wave of the Mayan calendar is the time of the Great Purification as has been talked about for instance in the Hopi Prophecy.

The high frequency of change and the many cross currents of cosmic energies that are now operating on our planet also affects the personal lives of many, who under the influence of this wave are going through major life changes. Planning your life as if it is going to stay the same in the future is becoming near or totally impossible even in the short term. Staying balanced is challenging when many energies are affecting us and pushing us in different, sometimes conflicting, directions. One result of these impulses seems however to be healings and unifications of families. In my view the overall purpose of the Ninth wave is to make people realize that there will be no other way forward except a surrendering to the divine and a commitment to follow its guidance to create a world in harmony. Human beings will no longer be able to entertain the illusion that they are in control. The road of materialism has lead to a dead end and attempts to get out of this are now likely to be blocked in all directions. The main theme of the Ninth wave will then be to let go, and especially to let go of all our established ways of domination. The result of the Ninth wave will be what we from our old perspective would call chaos and anarchy (anarchy means that no one rules) and people will increasingly start to ask what governments are good for and who needs them.

To a large number of people, who have not understood the inherent time acceleration of the Mayan calendar system, these changes will no doubt be frightening. Yet, most likely the changes will be uncomfortable for all of us regardless of our intellectual insights. In the face of this, many will naturally ask what there is to “do” and yet “doing” or “thinking” will provide no satisfactory ways forward. The reason is that this chaos is a necessary state of preparation for the new world to be born after we have reached the culmination of the Mayan calendar on October 28, 2011. A new world can only be born out of chaos and the chaos from which the new world will be born is now being created by the Ninth wave. This chaos means that our established habits will be disrupted in order to make us open to be part of manifesting the purpose of the cosmic plan. This purpose can be understood from the Mayan calendar and other ancient sources and is to create a new world very different from the present one. If we want to be part of manifesting this we will need to surrender to and be guided by the divine because the changes will be too much to fathom for our intellects. It is only such surrender that can lead us to be co-creators of the world that already exists in the mind of the divine. This transformation to unity consciousness will require a work of inner transformation of the individual, but an equally important component will be collective global events. Those sharing the intention of manifesting unity consciousness will come together and unify their hearts in global ceremonies.

To support such a direction for the evolution of humanity a series of global ceremonial events are now being proposed and promoted at the web site www.treeoflifecelebration.com. These will serve to bring together those that see the path forward as one of surrendering to the divine and have faith that there is a new and better world about to be born. It is a misunderstanding that the manifestation of such a collective intent can be deferred to some later point in time. It is now or never. Significant events in the Ninth wave will thus take place at the midpoints of its peaks (the days) leading up to the completion of this. This series of events reflects the process from seed to mature fruit that the Ninth wave carries and it is meant to have a cumulative character so that step-by-step new communities are added to those that are already taking part. To clarify the structure of the Mayan calendar and its ninth wave we are contributing a free diagram as a pdf-file that may serve as a guide for those participating in the events leading up to its culmination. Please help to accurately copy, distribute, translate and post this widely on the Internet and elsewhere.

The themes of the three first of these events have already been set and work is carried out to prepare for them:

The Midpoint of the 2nd day, April 22-23: Awakening to the Divine within. World Divine Light Organization and the Oneness Movement http://awakeningtothedivinewithin.org/

The Midpoint of the 3rd day, May 28-29: Recreating the Sacred Space of the Earth.

A Global Medicine Wheel Ceremony with the Indigenous peoples

The Midpoint of the 4th day, July 3-4: The Jerusalem Hug.

A Global Hug around the Old City of Jerusalem http://www.jerusalemhug.org/

To complete the Ninth wave a series of events will have to be planned also for its remaining days and I believe that these will tend to be more “cosmic” in nature as part of the climb to the top of the nine-storied pyramid. They are tentatively as follows:

The Midpoint of the 5th day: Creating cosmic resonance on a global scale
The Midpoint of the 6th day: Creating the Earth in a cosmic context
The Midpoint of the 7th day: Cosmic Harmony Festival
Connecting with Elenin/Niburu/Blue Star

These events are by their nature experiential. The frequency increase more or less mandates that they are created much more rapidly and with much more spontaneity than might have earlier been the case. The most important thing is the heartfelt desire to deepen sacred inner connections in a time that on the outside is increasingly looking chaotic. If you know of movements, organizations, groups or networks that would align behind these events please encourage them to contact www.treeoflifecelebration.com. If these events are to serve for us to express our collective intention of manifesting unity consciousness on a global scale large number of people will need to get involved to create them. They are global in character and yet locally they can only be created by local people in accordance with their own authentic expressions. Local core groups may then be established that decide to meet and create these events step by step. Aiding connections to the global events will be communication networks provided by recent interactive Internet technology and through these it will also be possible for individuals to create their own ceremonies. A series of events in the Ninth wave creating a deepened experience of cosmic belonging seems appropriate for those that want to keep the focus on the overall purpose of the cosmic plan. The birth of the new world will depend on it.

Mubarak steps down on 1 Imix

Dear Friends,

As most of you have heard Hosni Mubarak has stepped down from power in Egypt on this day of 1 Imix (1 Alligator) in the traditional Mayan tzolkin count, which also happens to be the amazing palindrome date 1102-2011. As you know I do not believe this date to be the beginning of the high frequency ninth wave bringing in unity consciousness starting March 9, 2011. Yet, this is still the beginning of the tzolkin round that would lead to the top of the pyramid of consciousness October 28, 2011 and so 1 Imix is a significant seeding date for the processes that are now starting.

The downfall of Mubarak is then as I believe the beginning of a process their dictatorial regimes and authoritarianism will, in a complex process with ups and downs, will start to crumble world wide and ultimately be replaced with a world of unity consciousness. This seeding is the significance of this day and hopefully many will align with it and find a constructive path to the future.

March 9, 2011 – Dawn of a Unity Wave

Dear Friends,

The Conscious Convergence last year was an intention setting event for the Ninth and highest wave of the Mayan calendar system that I often have called the Universal Underworld. This new wave will be activated on March 9 and I have written an article called March 9, 2011 – Dawn of a unity wave to stimulate discussion and encourage celebratory events to initiate this wave.

Please go to: http://www.calleman.com/content/articles/dawn_of_the_unity_wave.htm and consider your own participation in this.

An explanatory note regarding February 11, 2011 and March 9, 2011

Dear Friends,

I have got so many emails from people asking about February 11, 2011 versus March 9, 2011 that I feel it is necessary to write a special note about this particular issue, where I am largely responsible for the confusion myself. The question is: What is the beginning date of the Ninth wave? To address this I need to backtrack somewhat.

When I started my independent work on the Mayan calendar late in 1993 I already suggested two things that seemed controversial and unorthodox: One was the proposal that there were not only one, but nine waves, (underworlds, supports, levels of evolution, long calendars) of different frequencies of different durations that were creating the universe. A second was the proposal that the end date of the True Long Count is October 28, 2011. Naturally both of those assumptions came under attack by various people who had concocted suggestions as to what would happen on December 21, 2012, without foundation in Mayan texts. I however argued that the use of the Mayan calendar had undergone significant changes over the ages and the only criterion we could apply when it came to finding its true form would be that this actually would explain evolution in all of its aspects and would be useful for making predictions. If it was not reasonable useful for this why take an interest in the Mayan calendar to begin with? Such a criterion of rationality would have to be applied also to the Universal Underworld, which however at the time seemed to be far into the future and thus not completely clear to me.

Regarding the beginning of the ninth wave I thus wrote in my first book in English Solving the Greatest Mystery of Our Time: The Mayan Calendar (Garev 2001): “The short Universal Cycle of 2011, probably totaling 13 x 18 = 234 days, but possibly 260 days…” leaving an opening to the orthodox answer that it would just be another traditional tzolkin count starting February 11, 2011 (which has the added appeal of being an amazing palindrome date (11.02.2011 in international notation)). This quote reflected a vacillation or uncertainty on my own part not certain whether I could introduce a third unorthodoxy such as the return of the nine day count. Before taking such a step I wanted to feel a little more secure that my overall model of nine levels all completing on October 28, 2011 was true (that is to say accurately described the evolution of consciousness and the emerging paradigm shifts).

In the Mayan calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness (Bear and Co 2004) I place more emphasis on the final 260 day tzolkin round as the duration of the ninth wave (and so did, I think, always Ian Lungold who did so much to spread my work). Nonetheless, also in this book I wrote (“or possibly, if it is one twentieth of the Galactic Underworld, 234 days; I cannot tell yet,” page 216). The point here is that there is nothing that has changed, but rather a vacillation on my own part that has now come to an end. In the early nineties, when these notions were first developed, I had a much less certain view of how the Mayan calendar was going to evolve.

February 11, 2011 (1 Imix) thus remains the beginning of a tzolkin round and may for this reason be a cause for celebration for anyone following the traditional Mayan calendar. It is only that on my own part I tend to think that the experience of its inherent rhythm will be broken up by the ninth wave starting March 9, 2011, in which days and nights are each 18 = 9+9 days long. The tzolkin I believe will remain an undercurrent of energies whose power will however come to be superseded by a 18 = 9 + 9 day rhythm. It was Robert Gunn who through a manuscript he had sent me prompted me to lean over to these 234 days as the duration of the Ninth Wave. But generally, you might say that the fact that the two earlier mentioned unorthodoxies have now been verified, or at least given tremendous additional support, gives me the confidence to place the emphasis on the March 9 date as the beginning date of the Ninth wave.

What I am referring to here is partly the support from the Tortuguero monument, which in no ambiguous terms states (http://www.calleman.com/content/articles/the_tortuguero%20_monument.htm)  that indeed we are up for the simultaneous manifestation of nine waves (and not just one Long Count) and partly the verification of the October 28, 2011 date through my predictions about the Fifth night of the Galactic Underworld in the Mayan calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness. To the latter should be added the arguments that are presented in my interview in three parts on YouTube with Mayanist Mark van Stone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSu-SWJILQU) that December 21, 2012 cannot be the end date of the true Long Count (it is the end date of the Izapan Long Count, which is another matter) and that the ancient Maya who developed this calendar system were not at all interested in solstices (which is more of a thing for the currently dominating northern cultures of our planet).

If you ask me today I would then say that February 11, 2011 is the beginning (1 Imix) of a new tzolkin round of 260 days, but that March 9, 2011 is the beginning of the 234 day long ninth wave or the Universal Underworld. Naturally, some may react to my earlier vacillation with surprise, but the fact is that an explanation to the Mayan calendar is not cut in stone anywhere. Even the Tortuguero monument can only be made sense of with a background of all cosmic evolution in its entirety and when I started my work this monument was not even known. You also have to see such a monument in the right perspective and use your critical faculties in trying to make sense of such an archaic text.

To uncritically just take over a date or concept from the ancient Maya without further verification is much like saying that something is true just because it is written in the Bible. Clearly ancient peoples did see a lot of things we mostly are not able to see and so they may guide us, but in terms of overall factual knowledge the modern world is vastly ahead of the ancient world. Despite this knowledge basis whatever view we endorse regarding the Mayan calendar our models will always involve assumptions and interpretation that will require our best judgment (and putting our own egos aside). In doing so I feel that there are a few rules that we need to follow. One is not to base any aspect of the calendar on a personal (such as your own birthday) or local (such as the solar zenith in Izapa) agenda. Another is that the calendar should be able to describe the evolution of consciousness and the paradigm shifts through which this is expressed. Most importantly we need to follow a model that is process-related that accurately describes the processes that we want to co-create.

Voices about the Ninth Wave and 2011

Dear Friends,

Below follow a few voices on the Ninth wave that I think are very well worth pondering and adds to the monumental significance of the current year of 2011.

For those wanting to learn how to follow the ninth wave please see
http://4-ahau.com/en/Nine_Days_Count.html from Pierre Lejoyeux.

Phillipe de Vos, author of “l’Enneagramme dans la pratique soufie” adds a comment that I believe also puts the current development in North Africa in context by clarifying the meaning of the Gregorian year 2011 from a Muslim perspective:

“I find your explanation of the two different dates and time frames of 260 and 234 days very interesting. When we add the 234 days after the March 9, 2011 date we arrive at October 29. This year the latter date is the beginning of the Muslim pilgrimage the hajj, based on the lunar Muslim calendar and it is well known by Sufi masters that Imam Mahdi (= Kalki in Islamic culture) will arrive during the pilgrimage
when the Arafat day (the 9th day of the pilgrimage) is a Friday. This is called the biggest pilgrimage – hajj al akbar – and it happens this year 2011, as Arafat day is then a Friday. This convergence is very interesting and in fact in the Islamic world this has already been announced without knowledge of the Mayan calendar. The particular role of Imam Mahdi is to bring Islam to its original state: The sanatana dharma or “din al qayyim”, which is a Quranic word meaning “eternal law”. The Sufi masters say, no more religions, no more Sufism and no more divisions. All will be “rabbaniyin” (Lord) as says sheik Nazim Cyprus mufti and leader of naqchabandi Sufi way.”

Sharon Jorgenson points out the uniqueness of the Ninth wave (see also http://www.facebook.com/notes.php?id=100001419924122):

For 16.4 billion years this material world has pulsed according to the rhythm of the tzolkin round, whether the shorter 260 day cycle or its overtones such as the 260 tun Planetary Underworld.  In fact 8 of the 9 Underworlds neatly divides into 260 equal time periods, except for the last.  The Universal Underworld is 234 days long, thus requiring each tzolkin combination (sun sign) to emboss less than one solar 24-hour day.  This makes the Universal vibration unnatural, immaterial and out-of-phase with the rest of creation.  Of what value is that?  One might speculate that the purpose of the Universal Underworld is to loosen one’s consciousness from this physical reality…allowing for transcendence.  BUT first we will have to get “down & dirty” with the material world.  The abstractions generated by the left brain during the National Underworld are being stripped away, along with its ordered, comfortable categories in a foreseeable future:  our new vision consists of patterns in the Now.  We are not in control — a study of the Mayan Calendar has always brought this conclusion, now viscerally we shall experience it.  “Letting go” may be the big theme of the Universal Underworld.

The year 2011 and the ninth wave is also marked by some powerful numerology as for instance from Mark White: Okay… here is one to ponder over! This year we will experience 4 unusual dates…. 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/34 ……… NOW go figure this out…. take the last 2 digits of the year you were born plus the age you will be this year and it WILL EQUAL …. 111…. crazy year its gonna be! CRAZY.

or Sharon Jorgenson: To me what is more intriguing now is whether we already know something essential (outside of the Mayans) about a 9-day count through a study of numerology. Could the Universal energy wax and wane like this [1 – 9 then 9 – 1] being in a wave form instead of a typical endless repetition of nine counts.  Did you know that 1111111111 x 111111111 = 123456789987654321?  That is ten 1’s times nine 1’s.  Put them in a calculator to see for yourself, a perfect 18 digit number.  Basically we’re looking at a conversion of base ten to nine with the new agers favorite tool: 11 11.  What does that mean for the scientific, rational, digital, AND natural minds which are lodged in a 10 count?

or Carl Johan Calleman: I feel numerology, also of Gregorian and Muslim dates, will gain a higher importance than ever before in the Ninth wave. What you are saying Sharon then is that the 123456789987654321 climb is an expression of the 11:11. It seems this is a year of both 1’s and 9’s, alpha and omega of the evolutionary creation process. To me it however seems a little bit asymmetric to have 9 1’s multiplied with 10 1’s. If instead 9 1’s is multiplied with 9 1’s 111111111 x 111111111 it becomes 12345678987654321. This would be true if we look upon the 9th energy as the same energy lasting for two days. If that is true it is by itself a very strange thing to experience. We have lived with a tzolkin where every day carries a new energy mostly creating some kind of polarity between them. What would it be like to go through two days in a rowthat would have the same energy? Is this some kind of preparation for a stable stage of life on a higher level after October 28, 2011?

Best
